SMART. EASY. COOL.

HYDROCHILL®

Southwest Greens of Connecticut is happy to supply and install turf that saves Greenwich families and businesses money and time —helping you to focus on the things that are most important. With our advanced HydroChill® cooling technology, we have combatted the summer heat in a clever and simple way. A basic add-on to the turf’s infill creates a mean cooling range of 30-50 degrees and works automatically when hydrated by irrigation, rainfall, and dew.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

EVAPORATIVE COOLING TECHNOLOGY

Perspiration is an ordinary cause of thermoregulation known as evaporative cooling. Evaporation of moisture from the skin’s surface has a cooling effect. Similarly, HydroChill® has been shown to cool synthetic turf surfaces by the same principle. As the turf surface warms up with solar radiation, water kept in the HydroChill® turf is let go. Evaporating water gets rid of heat, creating a cooler, more enjoyable surface for the players.

  • HydroChill® implements moisture to provide a cooling effect. Rainfall, dew, and irrigation should help keep your lawn cool for days, contingent on local weather conditions.
  • HydroChill® can be integrated into most of Southwest Greens' infilled lawn systems.
  • HydroChill® will not alter the durability or warranty of Southwest Greens’ products.
  • HydroChill® is UV-resistant and needs to be re-treated every two years for the best efficiency.

WHEN IS IT MOST EFFECTIVE?

The temperature outside does not always determine surface temperature. Other elements affect an object’s surface temperature, including cloud cover, wind, the sun’s angle, and other elements.

HydroChill® gives you maximum benefit when the sun is closer to the Earth, as illustrated in the solar radiation calendar. Throughout the summer season in Greenwich, the sun sits overhead, causing surfaces to absorb more heat, resulting in hotter temperatures. The Earth’s rotation is likewise responsible for hourly variations in the sun’s light and making HydroChill® most effective during the hotter time of a clear day when it’s most necessary.
